Message from Pastor David

            July 2005

"Do not harden your hearts..." (Psalm 95:8)     Stone Heart

Do You Have A Hard Heart?

What is a hard heart?  A hard heart is a heart that is insensitive to the things of God.  It remains unmoved by God’s word and God’s spirit.  A hard heart says, “I don’t care.”

The Bible refers to this condition in many ways.  In 2nd Corinthians the apostle Paul says, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so that they can not see the light of the gospel.” (2Cor 4:4)

In other words the devil has blinded them.  Those who have been blinded are missing a “sixth sense”.  Their hearts are dull and unable to respond to God’s voice.

How can this change?  There is only one way.  2 Corinthians 3:16 says “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”  In other words, Whenever a person accepts Jesus as their Savior and their Lord, a change takes place in their heart.  Their heart is no longer blind to God.  Instead, with this new “sixth sense” fully operational, they are deeply moved by what they read and hear from God.  Their heart becomes sensitive to God.

Are you struggling with a hard heart?  Is your heart stubborn and unmoved?  Turn to Jesus.  Jesus lived a perfect life of love and obedience to God.  Every word he said was for our benefit.  Even from the cross his final words “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” are proof that his love was not a lie.  His death was a sacrificial death.  Although He was innocent, He willingly died on our behalf to take the punishment that should have been ours.  Turn to Him!  Make Him your Lord.  You can trust Him.  When you trust Him, He will cultivate in you a heart like His, sensitive to God’s word.

If you are tired of living with a hard heart, pray this prayer with me:

Dear God,  I confess to you that my heart is hard.  I know that my sins are many.  I need a Savior.  I ask your forgiveness for my sins and I ask you Jesus to be my Savior.  I pray that from this day forward, you will live in my heart and soften my heart so that it is sensitive to your word and your will.  I want to live a life that expresses my gratitude to you. Amen

Love in Christ,

Pastor David
