Our
Beliefs

The Reformers like Martin Luther and John Calvin fervently prayed and
bravely acted to keep the Christian faith true to the Bible. In the same
spirit:
WE BELIEVE the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired
Word of God, inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and ultimate
authority in faith and life (Deut. 12:32; Rev. 22:18-19; 2 Tim. 3:15; 2 Pet.
1:21; 2Jn 10).
WE BELIEVE there is one God, who is one single essence in whom there are
three persons, eternally distinct: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Gen. 1:2;
Matt. 28:19; Jn 10:30).
WE BELIEVE that God created humans good and in His image, with freedom of
choice; that rebelling against the Creator God, our first ancestors sinned and
thereby suffered the consequence of not only physical death but also spiritual
death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are, therefore,
sinful from birth; and that all of the suffering and evil in the world is rooted
in this sin (Gen. 1:26-27,30; Gen. 3 ; Gen. 6:5,8:21; Isa. 53:6; Rom.5:18-19;
Ps. 51:5).
WE BELIEVE that all people are fallen and sinful in nature and therefore
are unable to save themselves; that they are justified before God only through
faith in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Christ; and that we are saved
only by God's grace and through faith alone (Jn 3:16-19, 5:24; Rom.
3:10-18,23; Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 3:5).
WE BELIEVE in the humanity (Jn 1:14) and the deity of Christ
(Jn 10:33); His virgin birth (Isa. 7:4; Matt. 1:23; Lk 1:35); His
sinless life (Heb. 4:15, 7:26); His healings and miracles (Jn 2:11);
His atoning death on the Cross (1 Cor. 15:3; Eph. 1:7; Heb. 2:9); His
bodily resurrection (Jn 11:25, 1 Cor. 15:4); His ascension to heaven at
the right hand of the Father (Mk 16:19); His personal return to earth in
power and glory (Acts 1:11; Rev. 19:11).
WE BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling
the Christian is changed and nurtured to live a godly life and by whose outward
work the Christian is guided and empowered to do all that Christ commands us to
do (Rom. 8:9-11; 2 Cor. 3:17-18; Lk 24:45-47;Jn 16:13-15; Acts 1:8, 2:33).
WE BELIEVE that each congregation as well as the Church as a whole is the
Body of Christ, having Christ as her Head (Matt. 16:13-20; Eph. 4:15-16),
each member being a part of the Body of Christ working together for the Kingdom
of God (Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12:27).
WE BELIEVE that each believer regardless of race, age, class and gender
(Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:15-21; Gal.3:24-29) is a "priest" (or minister) in
God's Kingdom to represent God's message to the world (1Pe.2:9), being
the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Mat.5:13-16), carrying
out the ministry of Jesus on earth (Mat.28:18-20; Is.61:1-3; Lk4:18-19).
